Friday, 5/2 (In Waterford) Waterford County

Today is R+R, although I do a great deal of walking in this interesting city, and since it's designed around Medieval concepts it is quite easy to access by foot.  The streets are narrow and they meander, but they all tend to converge toward the center.  You forever find yourself back in the same place.  While Waterford is every bit as busy as Galway and Sligo, I do not have that same sense of uneasiness that I had in those cities.  Here there are no publicly troublesome people - no drunks, panhandlers, or obvious Traveler queues.

While Reginald's Tower is closed due to renovations, I am impressed with the structure from the outside.  It is named after Reginald The Dane who built a wooden tower there in 1003 A.D.  The actual tower now standing is from the 12th century and was built by the conquering Normans.  The French Church or Church of the Greyfriars dates from 1240 and except for the typical absence of a roof is in rather good condition.

I purchase some cheese, bread, and meats from the supermarket for lunch and go back to my B+B to sup in the garden in the lovely sun.  I wash out some clothes and hang them on Mrs. Murphy's line. I wander back downtown and write postcards at a pub.  I have dinner and call cousin Mike at his B+B in Ireland to confirm his arrival time for tomorrow, and I go to bed early.
